The game's plot takes players a year before the events of the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in 2011. A group of stalkers for the first time approached the very heart of the Zone - the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, provoking a cataclysm that almost led to disaster. A huge release of anomalous energy changes the Zone. Changes to the map of the Zone known to stalkers upset the fragile balance of power. Feuds flare up between factions over new territories, fields of artifacts and spheres of influence. The main character is a mercenary, who, by the will of fate, finds himself at the very forefront of the confrontation between factions of stalkers, Strelok and even the Zone itself.
